About Attention Economy

"Attention is a resource—a person has only so much of it" Matthew B. Crawford

Attention Economy is a new virtual space where writers can discuss contemporary politics and social issues outside of the current partisan paradigm.

The traditional approach to politics and social change is patently not working both here in the UK and in many other democracies around the world. Much of the established media slavishly cling to their long term biases and struggle with understanding and analysing modernity. The major political parties and public institutions similarly fail to grasp the world that the majority of us experience. They remain removed and indifferent to it.

Public debate around all major talking points has also become tribal, infantilised and bellicose. Data, facts and critical thinking are all too often rejected because they reflect a world that is nuanced and without clear moral, ethical and political certainty. Our consumerist mentality has made politics transactional rather than aspirational.

Attention Economy has no affiliation to any UK political party. Instead advocate a philosophy of thinking for oneself. We prefer intellectual rigour over unbridled passion, although we recognise that feelings cannot be ignored out of hand.

We also believe that there's no shame in changing one's mind, if that change is driven by new facts or a revision of a moral or ethical position. We will not simply pick a side for the sake of convenience or out of fear. We also reserve the right to have no opinion until I have sufficient information to form one.

It is through such an approach that Attention Economy will endeavour to explore and consider many of today's major political and social issues. We will strive to explain clearly and concisely such matters and provide commentary on the respective arguments arising from them.

Welcome to Attention Economy. The most sought after commodity.
